Acronym for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration , created on July 29, 1958 as a civilian agency for space and aeronautical research, largely out of the previously existing National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) through the signing by President Eisenhower of the National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958.
