Etymology

Coined after Nabarl, a character from Fire Emblem: Ankoku no Ryuu to Hikari no Tsurugi and Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo, who exemplified these traits. The most popular and the first female example of a Nabarl is Ayra from Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu. A more recent one and most notable one is Guy from Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken.

1. In the Fire Emblem video game series, a character introduced near the beginning of the game as a powerful enemy (usually a Myrmidon and usually promotes to Swordmaster) who as an enemy pursues the player units around and is difficult recruit to the player's side but that recruiting him or her comes to be found worth the trouble, with the value more pronounced after promotion. Nabarls rely chiefly on speed and skill. They are often killed off as enemies by players who are new to the Fire Emblem video game series since they do not know to recruit them, but they are very well praised by larger fans of the Fire Emblem video game series.
2. (Rare) A male Fire Emblem Swordmaster.
