From Middle English < Old English < Old French novembre < Latin November (ninth month) < Latin novem < Proto-Indo-European *(e)newn (nine); + Latin -ber from -bris , an adjectival suffix. The old Roman calendar began the year in March (spring), and November was the ninth month.
