ÉvryÉvry is a city in France, préfecture (capital) of the Essonne département. Postal code: 91000. Population (1999): 49,437. Évry is located 27 kilometers southeast of Paris along the Seine River. Significant nearby towns include Corbeil-Essonnes, Ris-Orangis , Brétigny-sur-Orge , and Draveil . The Institut National de la Statistique et des Etudes Economiques (INSEE) includes Evry in the Paris metropolitan area. The Evry arrondissement contains 17 cantons, 52 communes, and has a population of 471,435. The city of Corbeil-Essonnes, which is the seat of a sub-préfecture, is nevertheless not the capital the arrondissement, and is part of Evry arrondissement. In 1965 Evry became part of the French new town initiative and took its current name. Before it was known as Évry-Petit-Bourg and had a population of only a few thousand.
