Accent

Accent may refer to—

• in linguistics, a method of pronouncing words common to a certain region. It can also refer to the stress on a certain syllable.
• in writing, a type of diacritic. See acute accent ( ´ ) or grave accent ( ` ) for more information.
• in poetry, the stressed portion of a word.
• in music, one of a few specific types of dynamic, usually written above a note (eg. ^ or >) that instructs the musician to play the note underneath with greater force than usual. It is also the more general concept which includes agogic (length), pitch, and dynamic accents.
• the Accent programming language for computers.
