Adventus Interactive

Adventus Interactive is a Canadian software company specializing in music learning software. It was founded by James Mullen in 1996 and is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The company's initial purpose was to make music learning software which made better use of the special ability of electronic keyboards and other MIDI instruments to communicate with a computer. Many Adventus Interactive titles use a musical keyboard connected to a computer. Adventus first released Piano Suite Premier in 1998, which set a new standard in assisting students learning to read music, play the piano, and compose. Piano Suite Premier later evolved into Piano Suite Online, which connected students anywhere on the Internet with highly qualified instructors, for a high quality "Live" lesson. While online learning tools using video conference technology were already widely available, Piano Suite Online represented the first practical remote teaching solution for music.

Late in 2004, Adventus Interactive released Children's Music Journey, a fully animated interactive program which taught young children how to read music, play the piano with both hands, and compose. This product increased the focus on the benefits of rigorous music programs for young children, namely increased rates of learning in Math, Science, and Reading. In 2005, a study was launched to check wether these benefits could be obtained in a classroom at lower cost than traditional instrumental instruction, using the interactive Children's Music Journey software. [1] This study will use the software to teach music to students in the USA and Canada, from kindergarten to the second grade. It is being funded by the Keys to Achievement Foundation and monitored by James Catterall, Education expert from the University of California, Los Angeles. [2]
