Boilermaker SpecialThe Boilermaker Special is either of two mascots of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Boilermaker Special V resembles a Victorian-era railroad locomotive and is built on a truck chassis. BMS V debuted on September 23, 1993. The Boilermaker Special VI or X-tra Special resembles a railroad locomotive and is built on a golf cart, replacing BMS IV. The Boilermaker Special I debuted in 1940, also built on a truck chassis as were Specials II and III. Boilermaker Special III was used for 33 years and logged more than 110,000 miles (177,000 km).
