Chandler Burr

Chandler Burr (born December 30, 1963) is an American journalist and author, best known for his science writing. Burr achieved critical success with The Emperor of Scent (2003), a book-length account of a renegade scientist's efforts to decode the sense of smell.

Burr's first book, A Separate Creation (1996), summarized research on the biological origins and explanations of homosexuality. Published by Hyperion, a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Company, the book prompted a call by Southern Baptists to boycott[1] Disney films and theme parks. Some Christians were offended by the book's title and contents, which points to strong scientific evidence of inborn and innate origins for homosexuality, factors similar (for example) to those contributing to left-handedness.

Born in Chicago and raised in Washington, D.C., Burr was a correspondent in the late 1980s for The Christian Science Monitor in Asia, and later became a Contributing Editor to U.S. News and World Report. Burr has contributed articles to The Atlantic, The Lancet, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, and The New York Times. He lives in New York City.
