Chartered engineer

(Redirected from Chartered Engineer)

Chartered engineer is a professional qualification in Engineering (not a degree) offered by professional associations with a Royal Charter from the British monarchy similar to the Professional Engineer in other countries. Examples of such institutions are the Institution of Engineers in India, the Institution of Engineers of Ireland, and the Institution of Electrical Engineers in the UK. Many European countries have similar qualifications (e.g. Eur Ing) which are considered, under European law, to be equivalent. In the UK, the qualification is controlled by the Engineering Council UK and is awarded through its member societies. In Australia, the Institution of Engineers, Australia controls the qualification, although it is referred to as a Chartered Professional Engineer.

A chartered engineer is allowed to use the post-nominal letters CEng. In Australia, the post-nominal is CPEng.
