Clifton, Bristol
Clifton ward, which includes Hotwells but which is limited to the north east by Pembroke Road rather than Whiteladies Road, has a population of 10,293 (2001). 27% of the population between 16 and 74 are in full-time education. Clifton is home to many buildings of the University of Bristol; Isambard Kingdom Brunel's Clifton Suspension Bridge; the Roman Catholic Clifton Cathedral; Clifton College; Bristol Zoo; BBC Bristol; and Clifton Down, part of The Downs, a very large public open space. "Clifton Village" is a name given to the area of Clifton near the Clifton Suspension Bridge, away from the University precinct and Whiteladies Road, the main route to north west Bristol.
