Coast to Coast AM

Coast to Coast AM is a late-night syndicated radio talk show dealing with current events particularly as they relate to paranormal issues.

Coast to Coast was created by broadcaster Art Bell, who hosted the program from his residence in Nye County, Nevada (often referred to on the program as The Kingdom of Nye). Bell has retired and returned several times, and the show is now syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks and is hosted by George Noory from Los Angeles. Bell hosts the program most Saturday and Sunday nights. The show is occasionally hosted by Barbara Simpson from San Francisco, California. Recently the show has been guest hosted by Hilly Rose when George Noory and Art Bell are unavailable.

Coast to Coast mostly emphasizes very unusual stories and is full of personal stories. While program content varies, most nights are focused towards the paranormal, occult knowledge, ghosts, shadow people, remote viewing, predictions/divinations , conspiracy theories, protoscience, UFOs, pseudo-science, and, on occasion, science.

The typical format for the show is: the first hour features that night's host reading current events and news stories on the air and if time permits, taking calls about those events, followed by a guest being interviewed by the host. Usually the last hour of the program will be used to take calls and questions for the guest. Occasionally a guest-less all-open calls show will be done.

The Halloween edition of Coast to Coast becomes "Ghost to Ghost" as callers call in with their ghost stories.

The New Year's Eve show usually entails listeners calling in with their predictions for the coming year and the host, almost always Art Bell, reading the predictions made the previous year and rating them with either a "ding" (for true) or a "bonk" (for not true).

Occasionally a special phone line will be opened so only people who wish to speak about something relevant to a specific topic can call in. In the past, these have included a line for time travelers to call in, a line for the devil/Satan to call in, a line for people who have been attacked by ghosts/entities to call in and many more.

Prior to George Noory becoming the weekday host of the show, the show was usually guest-hosted by either Ian Punnet or Barbara Simpson on weekends. As previously stated Barbara Simpson still occasionally guest-hosts although Hilly Rose is now far more commonly the guest-host when one is needed. Ian Punnet has left the show to become a religious Minister although he has come back a select few times to guest-host. Ian Punnet was known for often expressing a left-wing point of view on the show whereas Barbara Simpson was known for her right-wing point of view. This is in lieu of the fact that although the show is very rarely expressedly political, political undercurrents often purvey the show, especially in regards to conspiracy theories.

The show was often preceded on many of its affiliates by the Dreamland radio program which was hosted by Whitley Strieber and focused on many of the same topics as Coast to Coast AM although often with a more spiritual point of view and more of an emphasis on extra-terrestrials and alien visitations/alien abductions. The show was removed from most Coast to Coast AM affiliates in the early 2000's and now is almost exclusivly heard over the Internet and over XM Satellite radio. Similiarities between Dreamland and Coast to Coast AM lie in the fact that Dreamland was started by Art Bell prior to his creation of Coast to Coast AM and he hosted it for several years in the 1980s. The name Dreamland is a reference to one of the nicknames for Area 51 and was selected for its connotations and connections to extra-terrestrials.

On January 16th, 2005 Ramona Bell, Art Bell's wife, hosted a short segment of the show.
