Cyril E. M. Joad

Cyril E. M. Joad (1891-1953) Influenced by Bertrand Russell an extreme realist, who defended religion against both materialistic and relativistic critics. He also emphasized a fallacy in assuming that to lay bare the origins of a thing is tantamount to describing its present nature, and further, that to show how a belief arises does not constitute a description of it nor its refutation. Jpad's principal works are: Matter, Life and Value (1929), The Present and Future of Religion (1930) and Return to Philosophy (1935).
