Democratic Progressive Party (Singapore)

The Democratic Progressive Party (Singapore) is a political party in Singapore. Although officially registered as such, in practice, it has been a father and son combination of Mr Tan Soo Phuan and his son Tan Lead Shake, a computer engineer. The party contested the general elections of 1997 and 2001 but has failed to win a seat. Not only that,in the 1997 General Elections, Mr Tan Soo Phuan lost S$6,000 of his election deposit as he failed to win 1/8 of the votes in the constituency that he contested.In the 2001 General Elections,it was his son's turn to lose the election deposit of S$13,000 (increased due to pay rises of each member of parliament) in the area where he contested.

The party has in no relation and should not be confused with the Democratic Progressive Party in Taiwan.
