Dogfish

The name dogfish is applied to a number of types of small sharks found in the northeast Atlantic, Pacific, and Mediterranean, especially three principal familiesScyliorhinidae, Squalidae and Squalidae. The name is applied only loosely and does not signify a close taxonomic relationship. A number of other unrelated fish, notably the bowfin, are also sometimes referred to as dogfish.
