Dorint Hotel Tower

The Dorint Hotel Tower is observable the most well-known multistoried building in Augsburg and from the entire city. The building is the highest building in the area Augsburg and under the ten highest buildings in the Free State of Bavaria. The tower is in the quarter Goeggingen at the crossing Goegginger road and Imhofstrasse. In its direct neighbourhood are the congress center and the Wittelsbacher park. Architectural similarity has the hotel tower with the twin towers of the Marina town center in Chicago, placed finished by Bertrand gold mountain sketched and 1962. A local pointed name for the hotel tower is "ear of corn", following its cylindrical form with projections.

Inaugauration

The former Augsburger agricultural machinery dealer petrol Schnitzenbaumer let build on the occasion of the olympic plays in Munich 1972 the tower for 50 million D-mark and fulfilled themselves thus a desire: a "landmark for modern Augsburg". Planning for the project impact however soon on resistance with the citizens and it also the citizens' initiative "saves the Wittelbacher park" based. The commencement of construction was in April 1971. Crash

1974 came the surprising message that the building was sold to the of Luxembourg getting thing by Johann Nepomuk Gloeggler. The sales contract was recalled however in February 1976 because of the not paid purchase sum and the building decreased/went back to his old owner. Since in addition, petrol Schnitzenbaumer had financial problems, the tower was written out 1979 for 35 million D-mark for auction by order of the court. Nobody wanted to acquire it however for this price. In the second approach on 5 March 1980 the Landesbank at that time Hessen (Landesbank Hessen Thuringia) acquired the object for 20 million D-mark. This wanted to further-sell the building, but for lack of prospective customers the tower stueckchenweise divided in 328 property units was sold. The hotel part of the tower with restaurant, consisting of the lower eleven and the two highest floors and parking deck went at the Fuerther entrepreneur Franz Lauer. That was however for a long time not still the end: In April 1989 Swiss company "Toga hotel" acquired the Hoteltrakt, whose lease with Holiday Inn already ran out one year later. Swiss operator Martin Zoller resumed the hotel under the name "tower hotel", had however March 1993 bankruptcy to announce. The 303 beds stood under administration of the bankrupt's estate, which suggested a far use as asylum-seeker or home for the elderly. Since the city resisted violently these plans, they were again rejected and the 185 hotel rooms remained unused. On 8 May 1996 the Hoteltrakt changed to official administration and auction again the owner and went for 20.9 million D-mark to the "roofridge national for getting thing Venezuela" of the mineral oil company Hertel, for 7.2 million a 3-Sterne automat hotel with the name "Goodnight" D-mark to which wanted to establish. The hotel should possess 108 rooms and beyond that should seven floors as hostel for seniors and obstructed to be used, but nothing for many years happened.

Renaissance

In January 2000 the release came for the apartment owners, who had to carry so far also additional expenses of the Hoteltrakts,: the Cologne entrepreneurs Dr. Wolfgang Ebertz for 12 million D-mark purchased the Hoteltrakt. After seven years peace now nevertheless came craftsmen, who invested all entkernten and 45 million D-mark into the building. In the year 2002 the hotel could open Dorint. The living range invested also an amount of millions, among other things for a new Eingangstrakt with Concierge and the largest video monitoring device in a German house. Also still the front was reorganized together.
