Evalubase Research

Evalubase Research is an online market intelligence service for the IT industry. It was formed in 2004 by executives from META Group, Forrester Research and ACNielsen, including Doug Laney, Tucker Edmundson, Nick Caffarra, and Steve Girling.

Evalubase addresses the market need for timely, credible, "demand-side" data about the real-world experiences of hands-on IT professionals. Unlike other IT research firms, Evalubase does not traffic in analyst speculation, rehashed news, or data supplied by the vendors themselves. Instead, Evalubase offers online ratings, reviews and dozens of metrics and trend data about IT vendors, products, and IT market segments to its subscribers. Subscribers may generate self-service charts and setup alerts.

IT professionals anywhere in the world may visit Evalubase and submit an assessment of any technology they have used or implemented. In return, Evalubase provides instant peer-scorecards that benchmark an individual's or organization's experience verus peer groups.

Evalubase is privately held with offices in San Diego, CA and Norwalk, CT.

Due to increasing IT compliance and ever-present cost concerns, Evalubase introduced the first technology portfolio scorecard™ system. There is no charge for participating enterprises and individuals. These scorecards can track an organization’s portfolio of technology assets, maintain ratings of product and vendor performance, and benchmark key metrics versus peer group experiences. This non-disruptive, cost-free IT auditing method can heavily arm those negotiating with vendors and can be used to align the organization’s technology portfolio.

Following a brief survey of any technology they choose, participants receive instant access to scorecards that anonymously contrast their experience versus organizations in their industry and of similar size.. In addition to the online scorecards available to all participants, Evalubase’s market intelligence system offers a wide range of self-service, research deliverables including:

  • Flexible querying, charting dozens of aggregate product and vendor ratings including: performance, functionality, usability, reliability, satisfaction, value, support, licensing, cost, cost-of-ownership, ease-of-implementation, various ROI metrics and buying criteria.
  • Online access to various levels of aggregate metrics by market, solution type, solution and/or vendor
  • Saving charts and specifying email alerts as research data is updated
  • Searching and browsing individual detailed user evaluations that include evaluator comments on their experiences with the solution
  • Opt-in based requests for follow-on interviews with evaluators
  • Custom analyses performed by Evalubase statisticians

IT departments can use Evalubase to benchmark their experiences against their peers; improve the speed and confidence of selecting IT products; reduce implementation risks; manage and negotiate with vendors from a position of knowledge; identify underperforming technologies and vendors; eliminate technology redundancies; improve the cost structure of IT and track technology adoption trends.

IT vendors can employ the Evalubase system and ratings to compare market perception of their products versus their competitors; improve products based on anonymous hands-on feedback; identify market trends and buying patterns; perform win-loss analyses of themselves and their competitors; adjust licensing practices and core business processes to improve buyer satisfaction; generate leads through direct evaluator interviews; and augment their reputation by publishing any ratings in which they dominate.

Consulting firms also can work with Evalubase to align practices based on IT market trends; target offerings to areas of emerging technology interest or difficulty; help clients select optimal solutions and implement them most effectively; maintain internal skill matrices; generate client leads; and promote individual consultants and the entire firm.

“This level of quality and detail in IT market research is long overdue,” said Frank Chisholm, Aptsoft president and CEO. “We will be relying on Evalubase to stream us high-caliber market data and competitive insights to enhance our product offerings and target our marketing in-step with stated user needs and real market trends, rather than speculation and hearsay.”

Evalubase annual subscriptions are available to IT departments, vendors, professional services firms, public relations firms and investment firms. IT portfolio scorecards™ are available free to all participating IT professionals and departments. Evalubase also partners with organizations such as technology user groups, conference organizers, consulting firms and IT media companies to provide relevant research for their members.
