Ferdinand-Tönnies-Gesellschaft

The Ferdinand-Tönnies-Gesellschaft e. V. (FTG) was founded 1956 at Kiel, Germany. A main purpose of it is to further sociological research, esp. on Ferdinand Tönnies (1855-1936), the founder of German sociology.

FTG is the inaugurator of the critical edition of Tönnies' complete works (Ferdinand Tönnies Gesamtausgabe, 24 vols., eds. Lars Clausen, Alexander Deichsel, Cornelius Bickel, Rolf Fechner, and Carsten Schlüter-Knauer; Berlin/New York, de Gruyter 1998- ), and is organizing publications and conferences on sociological topics (namely the "Tönnies Symposia": so far 1980, 1983, 1987, and 2004). FTG publishes as well the bi-annual Tönnies-Forum.
