Geo TV

(Redirected from GEO TV)

GEO TV is a satellite based television channel in Pakistan. Due to the fact that GEO's headquarters are in Dubai, safely outside the reach of the Pakistani government, it broadcasts many politically controversial programs, which otherwise it may have found difficult to do with such immunity.

GEO's name probably comes from the fact that it utilizes a Geosynchronous orbit satellite for its transmissions. However, in the Urdu language of Pakistan, the word GEO also means, "Live On".

One of GEO's most politically hard hitting programs is Followup with Fahd. Fahd is the name of the talk show host, who has been described as a cross between Charlie Rose and Bill O'Reilly, with the program's set looking very similar to Rose's sparse one.

Fahd asks guests tough questions about sensitive current affairs and issues of immediate importance. The program is conducted in English and is therefore accessible to a much wider audience. Hans Blix and Shimon Peres are two personalities who were interviewed this year by Fahd on the program.

GEO has many entertainment programs as well, especially the ever popular half hour soap operas which are called drama in Pakistan and India.

Mir Khalil ur Rehman was the founder of the Jang Group of newspapers and now his younger son Mir Shakil ur Rehman is the present owner.
