Galvatron is a fictional variable-configuration robot from the Transformers Universes. He is the evolution of Megatron into a being with more power and less sanity than his original form.
Galvatron's voice actor in Transformers: The Movie was Leonard Nimoy. In the series, both Galvatron and Megatron were voiced by Frank Welker, who had voiced Megatron in the two previous seasons. Welker and Nimoy also shared the role of Spock in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, in which Welker provided the screams of the infant and adolescent Spock.
In Japan, Galvatron was always being manipulated by Unicron. In Beast Wars Neo, following the events of Beast Wars 2nd Galvatron returns and is used as a vessel for the resurrection of Unicron. In Super Link, Micron Legend Megatron breaks free from Unicron's dormant body and is reformatted into Galvatron. His actions and behavior throughout the entire series were entirely controlled by the influence of Unicron.
Abilities
Galvatron's configurations included a bipedal robot as seen in the illustration, and a large-scale artillery piece. It was not apparent from the movie whether Galvatron could be wielded or used by other Decepticons as was Megatron's Walther P38 Pistol form.
Galvatron's energy cannon mounted on his right arm was capable of reducing a standard size Transformer into ashes. Its firepower was demonstrated when he assassinated Starscream on Cybertron to gain control of the Decepticons. The assassination also constituted revenge upon Starscream's coup d'état attempt, during which Megatron was jettisoned into space. This energy cannon was also capable of providing directional propulsion in a vacuum or low gravity environment, as evidenced by Galvatron's flight to the starship provided him by Unicron.
It can be gleaned from the movie that Galvatron retains some memory of his former self. One reference from a brief conversation with his former associate indicates that he has memory of his past:
Starscream: "Megatron? Is that you?"
Galvatron: "Here's a hint!"
His later threats to destroy the then-leader of the Autobots, Ultra Magnus as Megatron destroyed Optimus Prime are inconclusive, since he refers to Megatron in the third person.
In first episode of Season 3, Five Faces of Darkness Part 1, there is a moment where Astrotrain mentions that Megatron and Galvatron were the same being.
G1 cartoon
Galvatron was formed by Unicron as Megatron was near-death after the Battle of Autobot City. Unicron had the ability to assert control over Galvatron at considerable range through the apparent infliction of physical and psychological pain.
His first deed as Galvatron was to find Starscream (presiding over his own coronation as Decepticon leader) and disintegrate him with one shot from his cannon mode. Galvatron gained possession of the Autobot Matrix of Leadership after Scourge and his Sweep flotilla destroyed Ultra Magnus on the Planet of Junk. Galvatron then returned to Unicron and tried to enslave the giant planet-eating robot, but failed, being subsequently swallowed by Unicron as a result. Hot Rod later found him and reclaimed the Matrix in battle, and was able to open it, destroying Unicron and becoming Rodimus Prime. Rodimus Prime threw Galvatron through Unicron's outer shell and into space and then destroyed Unicron. Galvatron would, of course, return for the third season of the animated series.
Japan: HeadMasters
After the Hate Plague incident, the Decepticons kept a low profile. Galvatron came in contact with Zarak of planet Master, who offered his assistence to him. Galvatron had thwe upphand with his HeadMasters Cerebros and his army arrived in the Maxmis. Galvatron and his forces retreated as a result. After Optimus Prime's final sacrifice, Galvatron then continued his insane plan to cripple his enemies or to collect Energon for one of his insane plans. When the Cybertrons were producing Cybertonuron, a new metal that was even stronger than Cybertonium, Galvatron wanted the metal to fashion himself a sword to use in battle.
Galvatron soon launched a full-scale attack on Seibertron. Meanwhile, Zarak had his men secretly plant bombs in Vector Sigma to destroy Cybertron. When the bombs where planted, Zarak tricked Galvatron into going to the center of Cybertron alone. Most Transformers got off the planet befdore the planet exploding. Though he seemed to be dead, Galvatron returned while Scorponok was presiding over his own coronation as Decepticon leader. But Galvatron was a bit mercifully this time & spared Scorponok, as he and his Heamasters were needed to gather all Energon in the the galaxy.
It would turn out Galvatron wished to asborb all the energon to become as powerful as Unicron. But Galvatron's ambition was never achieved when he was attacked by the Cybertron Headmasters, whose overwhelming attack sent the villian into the ocean and he was frozen under tons of ice as a result.
Beast Wars Second/Beast Wars Neo
The leader of the Destrons that landed on Planet Gaia who wanted to use the power of the Amogolois energy to rule the universe. But he was defeated & found by the Blendtrons, who made him into a thrall for Unicron.
Transformer Energon/Superlink
- Was called Megatron during the 1st half of the series in the US version.
After the events of the last series, Megatron is found dormant inside Unicron's lifeless body, now occupied by Alpha-Q and his Terrorcons residing within it, gathering Energon with the intent of recreating that which Unicron has destroyed. Megatron quietly steals small portions of the Energon, working towards resurrecting himself, while Alpha-Q is able to make a sword out of his spark. When an enraged Scorponok stabs Megatron's body with the sword, it catalyses his rebirth, and Megatron becomes Galvatron, now with a new body that transforms into a spacefighter.
Galvatron gains control of the Terrocons & forces Alpha-Q to detach Unicron's head and take up residence in it, as Galvatron uses Unicron's body as his base of operation to gather Energon for Unicron, intending to resurrect and control him with the help of three of his old henchmen back, though they under went similar changes themselves. Once Unicron is reawakened, Galvatron tracks down Unicron's head and merges it with Unicron's body. This is doomed to failure, however, as Unicron's mind begins to overtake Galvatrron's, and his body is destroyed by Optimus Prime and Omega Supreme's combined form, Optimus Supreme. To escape death, Unicron's spark enters Galvatron's body, and subconsciously guides him to a hidden reservoir of "Super Energon" hidden beneath Cybertron, which power-boosts Galvatron. After a series of failed battles with the Autobots, Galvatron again immerses himself in the Super Energon, and this time finds his body enlarged to Unicronian dimensions. Unicron's consciousness emerges and takes over Galvatron once again, but in an ensuing battle between a super-powered Optimus Supreme, Unicron's mind is drawn out of Galvatron and contained within Optimus's Spark. Galvatron prepares to destroy Unicron's Spark, left floating in space, but it merges with him and transforms him once again. Galvatron fights for control of his own body, and eventually sacrifices himself to stop Unicron once again, plunging his body and Unicron's spark into the newborn sun Primus creates from the Super Energon, igniting it.
Galvatron was voiced by David Kaye (US) & Junichi Endou (Japan).
