Ganges Delta


The Ganges delta is a river delta in the south Asia region Bengalis.

It arises from the confluence of the following rivers:

The Ganges delta has the shape of a triangle (looks like the Greek letter Delta). It covers more than 105.000 kmē and reaches over India, People's Republic of China, Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh.

It is composed of a labyrinth of waterways, swamps, lakes and alluvial deposits (Chars). The Ganges delta is separated in the eastern (active) and the western (less active) part.

Despite risks from floods and cyclones, more the 143 million people live there.
