Große Messe

Mozart's Große Messe (or Great Mass) No. 17 in C minor (1782) embodies all of the pomp and solemnity associated with the Salzburg traditions of the time, but it anticipates the symphonic masses of Haydn in its solo-choral sharing. Above all else, Mozart was at the time immersed in the music of Bach and Handel. In the Credo listeners experience a kind of neo-baroque treat that is all rhythmically conceived.
