Guadalupe

Guadalupe has more than one meaning:

• Our Lady of Guadalupe, according to Roman Catholic canon, one of the three recognized appearances of the Virgin Mary which appeared to Saint Juan Diego (the first canonized Saint of Native American origin) on Tepeyac hill near Mexico City on December 12, 1531.
• The Basilica of Guadalupe, built in honor of Mary of Guadalupe, is the largest Basilica in America, located in Mexico City.
• Guadalupe, Nuevo León makes up part of the metropolitan area of Monterrey, Mexico, and has a population of nearly 700,000.
• Guadalupe, Puebla in Puebla
• Guadalupe, Zacatecas in Zacatecas
• Guadalupe is a town in Spain (pop. 2,325), in the Extremaduran province of Cáceres. It is the location of a convent that was an important pilgrimage site.
• Isla de Guadalupe is a small island owned by Mexico on the Pacific ocean.
• Guadalupe (short "Lupe" or "Lupita") is a very common name in Spanish speaking countries (primarily Mexico), used in honor to the Blessed Virgin of Guadalupe. Although most commonly a female name, it also can be assigned to males.
• Guadalupe, Arizona is a Yaqui Native American and Hispanic community between Phoenix and Tempe at the base of South Mountain. The town proudly maintains a strong cultural and ethnic identity. It is named for the Virgin of Guadalupe, the patron saint of Mexico.
• Guadalupe Parrondo is a Mexican pianist.

Guadalupe is not to be confused with the French overseas département of Guadeloupe.
