Gunite

Gunite is a form of concrete and a method of its application. Originally it was a trademark, patented in North Carolina. The concrete is blasted by pneumatic pressure from a gun, hence "gun"-ite.

A dry mixture of sand and cement is blasted through a hose, with water added at the very end of the hose.

In common speech it started to refer to any type of spray-applied concrete, therefore this method is also called dry gun process, to distinguish it from the wet gun process, when fully pre-mixed, i.e., "wet" cement is being pumped. the latter method is also known as "shortcrete".

Both processes have their advantages and drawbacks.
