Latin league

(Redirected from Latin League)

The Latin League was an alliance of Rome and the many other cities and villages in and around the area of Latium. It was originally created after the foundation of the Roman Republic to protect the Latin peoples against their common enemy, the Etruscans (who had just been expelled from Rome and were leading a war to regain the city). After the Roman defeat of the Etruscans, the League served as protection against the invading Celts from Gaul.

The alliance fell apart in 340 BC when many of the other cities began to feel threatened by the Romans considerably growing influence.
