Makar

A makar in Scottish literature is a poet or bard, often attached to the royal court. The Scots word makar (maker) refers to the craft of poetry (see also for comparison scop).

In modern Scotland, the Makar is appointed by the Scottish Parliament as an equivalent of a poet laureate. Since 2004, the Makar has been Edwin Morgan.

Makar is also the name of a fictional character in the video game The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (see The Wind Waker Characters).
