Modulor

Modulor was a system of proportions used by the Swiss architect Le Corbusier (18871965). In order to avoid converting feet or inches into the metric system, he started using just a few measures on construction site, which corresponded to proportions of a human body (first assumed to be 175 cm tall, later 183 cm).

The system was further elaborated, using the golden section and two Fibonacci sequences, one of which is the double of the other. Application of these proportions can be found in many of the buildings of Le Corbusier.

A picture of the Modulor appears on the Swiss 10 CHF banknote.
