Morąg IPA='mɔrɔŋk (German Mohrungen) is a town in north-eastern Poland in the voivodship of Warmia-Masuria, formerly part of East Prussia. As of 2003 Morąg had ca. 15,500 inhabitants. The town is located at 19°56' E 53°55' N and has an area of 6.1 km².

Population

History

The town was founded as Mohrungen in 1302 in (East) Prussia and in 1327 attained the Kulmer Recht from Hermann von Oettingen . The original inhabitants of the town came from Südharz. After belonging to the Duchy of Prussia under the Polish crown, the town became part of the Kingdom of Prussia and was from 1752 the seat of the district of Mohrungen .

After World War II Mohrungen became part of Poland as Morąg.
