Pam Shriver

Pam Shriver (July 4 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA), is a professional tennis player and sports broadcaster.

Pam came to prominence as a 16 year old at the U.S. Open (tennis) in 1978 where she stunned then reigning Wimbledon champion Martina Navratilova in the semi-finals before losing to Chris Evert in the final.

Although it proved to be her only Grand Slam singles final, Shriver was consistently ranked in the top 10 for much of the 1980s, peaking at number 3 and she posted wins over former number ones Tracy Austin, Chris Evert and Steffi Graf during her career. It was in doubles where she excelled. Partnering Martina Navratilova, she won 21 Grand Slam titles and the 1984 doubles Grand Slam, establishing themselves as arguably the greatest ever women's doubles team. She won her 22nd and final Grand Slam at the US Open with Natasha Zvereva in 1991. Shriver also won an Olympics gold medal in 1988, partnering Zina Garrison.

Shriver retired from the sport in 1994 but has since maintained a presence on the professional tour, mentoring Venus Williams for a while and she continues providing television commentary for the BBC in the United Kingdom, ABC, CBS and ESPN in the United States and 7 Sport in Australia.

Shriver was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame on July 13, 2002. In 2002, Shriver married former James Bond actor George Lazenby and she gave birth to her first child, James, on July 13, 2004.
