Ottawa/Rockcliffe Airport

(Redirected from Rockcliffe Airport)

The Rockcliffe airport, a former military base, is an uncontrolled airport located on the south shore of the Ottawa River four nautical miles northeast of downtown Ottawa, Ontario. The airport is presently owned by the Canadian Aviation Museum, and used and maintained by the Rockcliffe Flying Club.

In January of 1920, when Air Regulations under an Act of Parliament came into effect, Rockcliffe was selected as the most suitable site that could accommodate both an air harbour, and flying field. Rockcliffe Airport opened in the fall of 1920, and would be used for military aerial photography for the mapping of canada, air transportation, and aeronautical experimentation.
