Sime Darby

In 1910, William Middleton Sime, a Scottish gentleman, and Henry Darby, an English gentleman, teamed up to form a company to manage 500 acres (2 km²) of rubber estates in the state of Malacca. Lending their names to their business venture, they registered the company as Sime, Darby & Co Limited.

In 1979, the company changed its corporate name to Sime Darby Berhad and became a large Malaysian conglomerate that is involved in Plantations, Tyre Manufacturing, Heavy Equipment and Motor Vehicle Distribution and Property Development. It also has global presence in Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines and Australia.
