Stark effectThe Stark effect is the splitting of a spectral line into several components in the presence of an electric field. This splitting is called a Stark Shift. It is analogous to the Zeeman effect where a spectral line is split into several components in the presence of a magnetic field. Discovered by Johannes Stark.
