U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois

The United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois is the Federal district court whose jurisdiction is comprised of the following counties, divided into two divisions: The eastern division: Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, La Salle, Lake, and Will counties. It has jurisdiction over Chicago and its suburbs and the city of Rockford. Its courts are held in Chicago and Wheaton.

The western division includes: Boone, Carroll, De Kalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago. Its courts are held in Freeport and Rockford.


The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois represents the United States in civil and criminal litigation in the court.
