A license-free citizen's band radio service authorized by the government of Australia in the UHF 477MHz band; it uses 40 channels like the United States HF CB allocation. The equipment designs are similar to mobile two-way gear as used in the United States, though a fair amount of inexpensive equipment is available that is roughly equivalent to the low-end gear commonly available in the United States and Europe for Family Radio Service/General Mobile Radio Service or PMR-446 usage. A similar allocation is also used in New Zealand.
May also be used informally to refer to the FRS in the United States and Canada, PMR-446 in Europe, or any similar service, but this is mostly a fact of regulations and not an official name given to the service.
