USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-G)

In the Star Trek universe, the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-G was the conjectured eighth Federation Starship Enterprise. This Enterprise existed at some point between the 24th and 26th centuries, based upon the appearance of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-J) in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode, "Azati Prime". In official canon nothing is, as yet, known about her or her crew.

In the early planning stages of Star Trek: The Next Generation, the series was originally planned to take place about 200 years after the missions of the original Enterprise crew (Kirk, Spock, et al). The ship was to be named the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-G. The plans were later revised so that the series would take place about 80 years after the missions of the original Enterprise, and the ship name was revised to Enterprise-D.
