USS Monongahela

Two ships in the United States Navy have been named USS Monongahela, for the river that flows north from Fairmont, West Virginia. The Monongahela River is an important freight artery.

• The first Monongahela was launched in 1862 and served during the American Civil War.
• The second USS Monongahela (AO-42) was an oiler during World War II and the years following.
