About Anárion

The person

I'm Jordi Kroon, a white male of German descent, currently living in the Netherlands.

The name

I have chosen the name Anárion for my edits on the Wikipedia because I am an amateur Tolkienist, and I very much like the name. I wish Unicode would let me write it correctly though:  (this encoding is according to the ConScript Unicode Registry and therefore should look like , if you have the correct font installed (Code2000 or Code2001 will work)—spacing is messed up in MSIE, though).

Why Anárion? Firstly, because I like the name. It is uncommon to my ear, but sounds pleasant. Its translation, "sun-lover" (or possibly "sun-child") is also fitting—I much prefer sunlight over the moon. Secondly, Tolkien's Anárion is one of the lesser known heroes of Middle-earth: he alone defended the realm of Gondor for several years against Sauron at his most powerful since the Downfall of Númenor, while Elendil and Isildur massed armies in the north. I wonder sometimes if Tolkien would have further developed this character, given the chance.

The account

I originally edited as Jor, and as soon as possible will be editing under that account again. See /Jor for details on why I changed my wiki account.

Articles

I know it's customary to put a list of articles worked on here, but I don't like the "owning articles" thing. Just check my contributions!

But since I have the space anyway, a very brief list follows:

Articles I believe I improved:

  • The Adventures of Tintin: listed and helped bring this article to featured status, provided an image for it
  • Aceh: substantially expanded and basically completely rewrote the colonial war history, provided an image
  • King of the Britons: went through almost all articles and made sure the 'king box' was consistent, made factual corrections, and ended up writing a couple of the missing ones

Articles I began:

As stated I don't as a rule keep track of "my" articles, so all these are fairly recent.

Userpage

This is my personal userpage, but feel free to edit: after all, this is a wikiwiki. I would like to request you do not remove information from here, though, and leave formatting attempts at the Wikipedia:Sandbox. The items marked Personal stuff I would prefer to remain as I leave them.

If you want to contact me directly, please use the discussion page.
