Vanier College

Vanier College is a Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel (CEGEP) (College of General and Vocational Education) located in the Saint-Laurent, Quebec, Canada, founded in 1970, as the second English-language CEGEP in Quebec. Like any CEGEP, it serves students transitioning from high school to university studies.

Vanier College was named in honour of Georges Vanier, Canada's second native-born Governor General. As of 2004, Vanier had about 5000 day students, with another 3000 in continuing education programs.

Vanier has men's (AA and AAA) and women's basketball and football (soccer) teams, men's rugby and Canadian football teams, and women's touch football teams, known as the Vanier Cheetahs, in the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association .

Notable alumni include one-time boxing world champion Otis Grant , Yolande James (the first black woman ever elected to the provincial legislature), Gemini Award-winning TV producer Arthur Smith , comedian Jeff Rothpan , actor Andrew Walker , singer Mirella Dell'Aquila (Popstars winner), politician Russell Copeman , and comedian Rick Bronson .

Notable former and current faculty include science popularizer Joe Schwarcz, former Equality Party leader Keith Henderson .
