Veiling-glare laser

A Veiling Glare laser is a non-lethal weapon which uses light in the ultraviolet range. Its effect is to cause fluorescence in the lens of the eye, producing intense glare which makes clear vision impossible.

It has three key advantages over previous laser dazzlers which operate in visible wavelengths:

- the power levels used can be lower, so there is in theory less risk of eye damage (though the use of UV wavelengths is in itself questionable as these can damage the lens)

- the location of the laser is not apparent to the target

- it has a wide angle of effectiveness
