Victoria of Baden

Victoria of Baden (August 7, 1862 - April 4, 1930) was the Queen consort of King Gustav V of Sweden. Her parents were Grand Duke Frederick I of Baden and his wife, Louise of Prussia, who was in turn the daughter of German Emperor Wilhelm I. Victoria was also great-granddaughter (by her paternal grandmother) of King Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden.

She was born at the castle in Karlsruhe in Germany, and married Gustav, then Crown Prince of Sweden and Norway, on September 20, 1881. She became Queen of Sweden at her father-in-law's death on September 8, 1907. The couple had three children:

  1. King Gustav VI Adolf (1882-1973)
  2. Prince Wilhelm, Duke of Sudermannia (1884-1965)
  3. Prince Erik , Duke of Westmannia (1889-1918)

Queen Victoria had substantial political influence over her husband, who was often considered Pro-German.

She was also devoted to various kinds of charity.
