Volgodonsk (Волгодонск in Russian) is a town in the Rostov Oblast in Russia. It is located on the west bank of the Tsimlyanskoye Reservoir . Population: 28,000 (1970). The town grew in size due to the construction of the Volga-Don Canal and Tsimlyanskaya hydroelectric damn . Volgodonsk received a town status in 1956.
