WDTN

WDTN is a broadcast television station in Dayton, Ohio, affiliated with the NBC network as of August 30, 2004. It broadcasts on Channel 2. It originially signed on as WLW-D, one of several stations owned by Powell Crosley's company, whose flagship was WLW AM. The first broadcast was of Milton Berle's Texaco Star Theatre.

The license for WLW-D was granted to the Crosley Broadcasting Corporation in 1947. It was the first broadcast television license granted by the Federal Communications Commission to the Dayton television market. The station began broadcasting in 1949 as an affiliate of NBC. The first program broadcast was the Texaco Star Theater with Milton Berle.

In 1967, WLW-D broadcast Phil Donahue's television debut.

Crosley sold the station to Avco Broadcasting and in 1976 Avco sold it to the Grinnell Communications Corporation , who changed the call letters to WDTN. In 1981, the station was purchased by Hearst Broadcasting . In 1978, the station changed its network affiliation from NBC to ABC.

In 1998, the station was sold to the Sunrise Television Corporation . In 2002, it was purchased by the Lin TV Corporation .

In 2004, the station switched its network affiliation back to NBC to take advantage of NBC's more popular programming.
