Zoo Crew

The Zoo Crew is a fictional superhero group in a comic book published by DC Comics until 1983. The comic series was set in a world of anthropomorphic, talking animals where humans are unknown. The writing was humorous in tone, rife with puns (the group resides in the city of "Gnu York," for example) and tongue-in-cheek commentary on the general silliness of it all, as well as knowing nods to the long history of "funny animals" in comic books.

The group is led by Captain Carrot, a rabbit who, when he eats super-powered carrots grown in a meteor from outer space, gains increased jumping power, super-strength, and resistance to harm.

The other members of the group are:

• Pig-Iron, a very large pig with great strength and metallic features
• Alley-Kat-Abra, a cat who practices magic
• Fastback, a turtle with super-speed (this in homage to a Golden Age character known as the Terrific Whatsit, basically a turtle in a Flash costume)
• Yankee Poodle, a dog with attraction and repulsion powers
• Rubberduck, a duck with stretching powers
• Little Cheese, a mouse with the ability to shrink

Some of the supervillains the Zoo Crew faced include:

• Frogzilla, a gigantic mutated frog
• Armordillo, an armadillo with super strength
• Dr. Hoot, an owl evil scientist
• King Kone, a gorilla in what was basically a Mr. Freeze costume
• Fat Cat, a cat gangster
